Old School Runescape Beginner’s Guide (2019)
Starting as a new player for OSRS is difficult and complicated. We are unveiling the mystery of the underlying mechanisms and functions to help you get a fun and quick start in the game!
Playing OSRS can be complicated, especially for novice and inexperienced players. Things like user interfaces, combat systems and skills are so confusing and a bit old that might get someone to quit quickly. So, in this guide, I am willing to be simple for beginners rather than very detailed to avoid confusion and enjoy deep gameplay.
Tutorial Island
When you log in to the game for the first time, you will start with Tutorial Island. On this island, you will learn the basics of the game, such as how to save money or how to train skills.
The first thing you have to do is choose a name for your character, and then you will turn to character customization.
Then you should flash by the yellow arrow above some NPCs. They will teach you the general mechanics and basics of the game.
In the last task of this tutorial, you will be asked if you want to be a triathlon. As a beginner, becoming an iron person is not a wise choice. Being an iron man has a big negative impact and you can't trade with other players.
After completing the tutorial, you will be transferred to Lumbridge, where you will start playing the game.
Combat Mechanics
In OSRS, the battle mechanism is simple. In fact, apart from magic spells, you won't use this flashy skill like other MMO games. The main cause of damage to your opponent is your basic attack.
The amount of damage you receive will be affected by your attributes, depending on your combat skill level, such as melee or range. However, the damage you deal to your opponent is not guaranteed, as it can still achieve low damage, even 0 damage, while achieving 99 levels in all combat skills. This means it's random, but your level and gear increase the chance of damage and increase your maximum hit rate.
In short, improving your accuracy means increasing your chances of hitting, increasing your power means increasing your maximum hit rate.
Things to do before using your first bond
Before purchasing the first Bond, you should perform the following steps in the F2P world so that you don't waste your membership days.
Train your main combat skills until 50~60.
Reach the level required for all free tasks and complete all tasks. By completing a free assignment, you will also get an EXP of various skills.
Try to--------- buy OSRS Gold as much as you can, so you can buy bonds from the Grand Exchange without paying real money.
To start training combat skills, you'd better go to Goblins or Cows east of Lumbridge. Then, at a higher level, you can start training at Frogs in the south of Lumbridge.
That's all, I hope you find this guide simple and practical.
